Subaru Ride of Her Life

I was the Senior Producer on this project. This was phase two to our DoubleURXXX Productions project. We created a movie trailer and Tumblr based site that is a shareable grindhouse smorgasbord to promote the release of the 2015 Subaru WRX STI Race car and we had Bucky Lasek our Subaru Rallycross Driver star in it.  Below is the official ride of her life movie site and trailer.

Subaru DoubleURXXX Productions

I was the Senior Producer on this project from conception to completion. Subaru wanted us to launch 2 new cars, the WRX and the WRX STI. This was phase one WRX, phase two for the WRX STI is here. We started a production company.

DoubleURXXX Productions. The wicked step child of Subaru of America, Inc.

We do whatever the hell we want and only exist to produce high-octane entertainment for people, and Canadians, who think boring sucks.

  • We started a production company called DoubleURXXX Productions, with legit PO Box and Phone number.
  • We teased the company by creating a wikipedia and also posting a production job on craigslist which someone posted to Nasioc (The Subaru Impreza Owners club forum).
  • The goal was to create an experience so unique and exclusive that people would participate in and we had a secret agenda that we teased
  • We created a site TheVINGOTMEIN.com and let people enter by entering in their WRX or WRX STI VIN numbers, so you had to be an exclusive WRX/STI owner to enter the site. There was a lot of validation and backend work involved with Subaru IT to validate and verify VIN Ownership. Once people entered they were sent a free shirt and a video of what the site was about.
  • Once people were in, we started a contest to have owners submit a video (either of racing, talking, or knowledge of mechanics) of why they should be selected to win a trip to meet Bucky Lasek and built a WRX with him from the ground up.
  • Bucky Lasek chose 4 people in the end, hundreds of people wound up entering. Lots of people who didn’t own WRX or STI’s were pissed, such is life (this added to the popularity and continued interest). We called the finalist, chosen ones.
  • The chosen ones were sent to meet Bucky at a hanger where there was a fully dissembled WRX there to build up as a team. Once they finished the build Bucky opened the doors to show the custom race track he built. They had no idea they would be the first ones to test drive and race the 2015 WRX.
  • The chosen ones all did time trial laps and unbeknownst they were competing, the person who had the best lap time actually won a 2015 WRX! It was amazing to see and watch and all come together after months of planning, design, production and legal work.

Subaru Motorsports

I was the Senior Producer on this project. The goal was to redesign the Subaru Rally page from the ground up with new CMS integration for desktop/mobile, we called the new site Motorsports since it incorporates Rally/Rallycross. Since there are so many events and photos we needed a good way to sort through all the content and view it easily. I worked with our front-end/back-end architects to help plan and execute this project. The site was built on the (AEM) Adobe Experience Manager platform. I assisted in adding CMS content, becoming AEM Author certified in the process.

Microsoft Windows Self Guided Walkthrough

I designed all these layouts and all the typography within Photoshop. All background elements were taken from lifestyle and stock photos and were cut out and pieced together to create unique background compositions for this site including laptops, pictures, cups, tables. walls, etc. I designed the full windows environment and type layout, all prompts, including the UI as well. Then worked with developers and I exported out each piece making it web ready utilizing Photoshop so they could develop the full experience.

Tweetaconda: Denver Museum

“The more you tweet the longer it grows” was our motto and concept for the Tweetaconda website for the Denver Museum live Anaconda Exhibit. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science was hosting an event for their Anaconda Exhibit and wanted something fun and interactive for their guests to educate them, entertain and also something that would attract outsiders attention and bring them into the exhibit.

The Tweetaconda feeds on your words and they make it grow. By using the hashtag #tweetaconda or by filling in the message form you can help make the snake the longest in history. There were large TV monitors at the exhibit and we gave viewers iPads to encourage people to send in their tweets. As the tweets created larger segments of the snakes body, facts about the Anaconda sprang up as well. It was gratifying in multiple ways, you see your message as well as others inside the snake body, watch it grow and learn facts about the Anaconda at the same time.

The site was designed to reach a length of more than 32.75 feet (based on the current record of a snake found in Celebes, Indonisia), that’s a lot of tweets and a lot of snake facts.

The website was loved so much we received attention from .NET Magazine and found ourselves receiving a page of coverage in their coveted magazine.
